ThunderBolt® Storm and Lightning Detector

Thunderstorms with deadly lightning can come out of nowhere, particularly in mountainous environments, catching anyone off guard and unprepared, placing workers, equipment, and materials in harm’s way. Sooner or later, everyone who works outdoors will get caught in this predicament; it is just a matter of time.

THUNDERBOLT Storm and Lightning Detector, a virtual weather station in the palm of your hand, removes the element of surprise of an approaching storm. Through the use of advanced electronics and proprietary software, THUNDERBOLT is designed to detect lightning and track thunderstorms, in real time, within 75 miles of the user’s location. Using a high-sensitivity receiver and ferrite antenna, ThunderBolt detects electromagnetic field emissions from lightning activity within a storm cell, allowing THUNDERBOLT to continuously track the storm, updating the storm’s progression to the user through text screen messages, and providing the user with the Estimated Time of Arrival. When a storm has reached 8 miles of the user (the point where lightning is not yet visible nor thunder can be heard, but when lightning is within deadly striking range), THUNDERBOLT will alert the user the Storm is Local. The unit will then provide the estimated Time to Clear (the time it will take the storm to clear the 8-mile range). All communicated with easy-to-understand messages on its backlit text screen display, its flashing LED light, and its audible alarm.

In addition, THUNDERBOLT has three custom alarm settings to allow maximum flexibility in a wide variety of applications where different warning times are required. This helps the user make the right decisions at the right time by removing the guesswork out of storm safety decisions and maximizing work productivity during storm activity, while minimizing potential liability to companies should an injury or fatality occur due to lightning or high winds from storms.

THUNDERBOLT’S proprietary software also identifies multiple storm situations, including the presence of super cells, squall lines and multiple storm cells. Warning of these additional dangerous weather phenomena is displayed on its text screen.
