MODEL 109SC Blaster's Ohm Meter w/Stray Current Tester Kit
The 109SC Kit uses the same meter as the Model 109 but allows checking for stray current. The 109SC is a safety MUST when using electric blasting caps. Remember, stray current must be tested for prior to any electric blasting operation, OSHA 29CFR 1926, 906B and MSHA 30CFR 77.1304.TT.

109SC Digital Multimeter with stray current test procedure:

1. Drive first stake into soil near the blast line. This will be the center stake.

2. The second stake will be moved around the center stake at various points within the blast site, Connecting wire may be run from each stake to the tester. (For each test, this stake will have to be driven in 6" - 8" and be tight).

Note: SOIL MUST BE MOIST IN THE STAKE AREA. IF SOIL IS DRY, ADD WATER UNTIL SOIL IS MOIST.

3. Connect meter with the red lead to one stake and the black lead to the other stake. Direction (Polarity) does not matter.

4. Turn the dial to the "2" setting, and note reading (DCV) then (ACV). If the reading is greater than .049 on either DCV or ACV, or the combined total of ACV and DCV, run the test again depressing the button on the top of the black box instrument. This shunts the leads with a 1 ohm resistor.

NOTE: WHEN THE SHUNTING BUTTON IS USED, IT SHOULD NOT BE DEPRESSED FOR MORE THAN 10 CONSECUTIVE SECONDS FOR ANY ONE MEASUREMENT, FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS REQUIREMENT COULD RESULT IN THE CIRCUIT BOARD OVERHEATING.

The readings should drop to near zero. If the readings are still greater than .049, stray current is too high and the source will have to be found or a non-electric system will have to be used.

NOTE: IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT THE USER REVIEW THE SECTION ON STRAY CURRENT IN THE "ISEE EXPLOSIVES HANDBOOK". THIS SOURCE EXPLAINS IN GREATER DETAIL THE CHARACTERISTICS OF STRAY CURRENT AND HOW TO TEST FOR IT.

NOTE: THIS METER IS NOT MSHA APPROVED FOR THE USE IN GASSY MINES

Specifications:
The HD110C is designed for professional use in harsh environments. The meter is unusually rugged and reliable in everyday heavy use applications. The meter is made using waterproof construction to prevent dirt, grime and moisture from entering the case and causing inaccurate readings or damaging shorts. Built of tough, fire-retardant thermoplastic resistant to grease and chemical spills, with all sensitive components shock-mounted for a drop resistant to at least eight feet.
HD110C has an extended voltage measurement capability of 1500 V dc and 1000 V ac, unmatched by any other line of digital multimeters. The extended voltage ranges can withstand transients up to 12 kV.
